COULD THE OMNI-BLADE MAKE A COMEBACK?
Development is currently underway for the return of the wearable Mass Effect Omni-Blade Replica. This real-world likeness of an iconic in-game weapon first appeared on GameStop shelves in 2017. It’s a collector’s item, a prop for cosplay, and just a fun toy to mess around with. Some fans even tinkered with ways to make it light up.
To this day, years after it sold out, the Omni-Blade replica remains a favorite among fans, some of whom have been asking for it to be made available again. Soon, with their help, it just might. And if it does, it will come with a coveted upgrade.
Yes, the Omni-Blade replica could return. And no, you wouldn’t have to DIY those lights anymore.
Through its very first “Passion Project”, the BioWare Gear Store seeks the help of fans in hopes to produce the Mass Effect Light-Up Omni-Blade Replica, a collectible that some fans have been requesting for years. The campaign - which will run for 30 days from May 3 through June 2, 2021 – has a goal of 3,000 orders at $59.99 USD each. Early birds who back the project within 72 hours of the launch get to enjoy free US shipping or a $13 USD discount on their international shipping.

For years since then, an outspoken portion of the game’s fanbase has been asking BioWare to bring the item back. Meanwhile, those who had it were coming up with creative ways to make it light up, so it could look even closer to how the sci-fi weapon appears in the game.

This replica is based on the one we released back in 2017, but upgraded with LED lights so that you can have more fun playing with it or displaying it. Despite the upgrade, the retail price of this new version is the same as the old one.
If you wanted to dress up like Commander Shepard or Pathfinder Ryder, you can just grab this easy and accurate prop, and you’ll have more time to perfect your costume and character. But we have a feeling that you don’t really have to be a cosplayer to want it on your arm.
Because it’s powered by 3 AAA batteries, you can put it on and get moving without being tethered to a power source. You’ll have a blast looking at your Light Up Omni-Blade as you freely swing it around.
When you’re not wearing it, you can dock it on its display stand to keep it safe and secure. Pick a prominent spot in your game room or wherever you show off your collection. It will have no problem standing out. Even amongst other collectibles. Even in the dark.
You could even use it as mood lighting to give your room a Mass Effect ambience. Together with its transparent material, its beautiful glow really enhances the illusion that it’s part-hologram like its in-game counterpart.
Switch it on at night to lull yourself into dreams of exploring the galaxy—and destroying husks that get in your personal space! The campaign needs 3,000 orders to turn the dream of the Light Up Omni-Blade into a reality. Backers will be charged at the time of backing, but they can cancel at any time before the end of the campaign. If this Passion Project becomes successfully funded, the replicas are expected to ship in December 2021.
