In Dragon Age, the player’s actions shape the personal stories of the cast. And the tarot cards that represent the characters change to reflect their evolution. Solas as The Hierophant, as seen in this lithograph, is a telling and foretelling of the events in the game and the role he plays in them. Players earn this card by completing his romance arc. Peaceful on the surface, it represents the story of a mage caught between the world of Thedas and the Beyond. Between the natural and spiritual, waking and dreaming, right and wrong.
The art is created by Nick Thornborrow, who shaped much of the visual language and character designs of the game’s concept art. The tarot card is rendered in a painterly fashion, with visible brush strokes and transparent washes. Thornborrow also used different textures to add an illusion of depth to the piece, with parts where the “paint” is laid on thick, particularly in the golden leaves Solas is touching.
The details leave subtle clues about this mysterious character’s nature, and where the story is headed.
This beautiful lithograph lets its viewers appreciate the art of Dragon Age in stunning high quality and a large format. It’s sure to liven up any space, and enrich it with a visual story.
The Solas Tarot Lithograph comes in a limited edition of only 600 prints, each with an individual number. Those who want to own one can pick it up for $35 USD at the BioWare Gear Store.
